Whenever these "subpersonalities" are actively playing their different roles, each of them may have some control over different sets of goals and skills - so that each has a somewhat different Way to Think. However, they will all need common access to many of the person's resources and bodies of commonsense knowledge. This means that those subpersonalities will frequently need to compete for control of some higher-level processes.
